AB&I Foundry recently partnered with Earn and Learn to provide a workshop on the value of internships in Oakland.

Earn and Learn provides education services to effectively scale work-based learning experiences for all learners. The organization coaches a regional network of schools, employers and community partners to unleash career pathways for learners in K-12 and community colleges. They believe that every learner deserves the opportunity to explore the world of work and achieve their fullest potential.

For this workshop, Earn and Learn wanted to partner with AB&I’s Zeydi Gutierrez and Oakland Unified Linked Learning Office’s Emiliano Sanchez, as examples of a successful partnership. They are what Earn and Learn calls “connectors” working to connect learners and employers for purposes of coordinating work-based learning.

The group was comprised of educators from different school districts in the area where they were asked to identify and discuss challenges they might have moving forward. The educators took a tour of the foundry, had lunch and participated in a 2-1/2 hour Earn & Learn Workshop where they learned ways to follow-up on and sustain relationships with employers who they met during their course and explore ideas for institutionalizing communication and engagement with employers, before during and after their internship.

AB&I is pleased to have the opportunity to work with Earn & Learn and to help the work-based learning educators prepare students for the workforce of the future.
